Wow, hello friends! I truly cannot believe the amount of support and messages congratulating me that I’ve gotten on that note :’) My imposter syndrome is going to have a hard time refuting such a massive amount of kindness. Seriously I cannot wrap my head around the fact that literally thousands of you have been celebrating my poetry publication or appreciating little sketches I’ve done (among others). I’ll be sure to share a link to the poem when it’s published this fall!
I want to write a quick piece here to re-introduce myself and describe some of the things I plan to be writing about on this account—hopefully you’ll want to stay for some or all of it :D
I’m Jack (obviously). For my “day job” I’m a phd candidate in a fairly techy field. Over the last several months, I’ve felt a deep desire to reconnect to the more creative work I did when I was younger. So I began writing again and going to writing groups and took a drawing class. I joined substack several months ago and immediately enjoyed the different community here. And that brings us to now! I haven’t posted all that many pieces yet, and in general I will probably post sporadically and/or in bursts. The topics will be a bit inconsistent too, though I will make them clear in the titles. I’m also considering using a secondary art and a secondary nature newsletter instead of putting everything here. Yay logistics I’ll get this sorted out though
Anyway… here are some likely future post topics:
Poetry. I think a lot of you came from the post about having poetry accepted. Ironically, I haven’t really posted any of my poetry on here (partly because I don't think it's that good lol). But I would like to change that.
Things I saw or thought about during walks in nature/in the park including lots of photos
A couple of zines I’m working on (one about being more observant on walks)
Articles discussing what an artist is and what art is, with several references to famous artists and their discussions of these questions
More sketches and art
Something about disability pride month (maybe)
A piece discussing an experience with losing a friend
Any other topics that captivate me and demand I write about them
Ok I think I’ll leave it there for now, but thank you all again for subscribing it means more than you can imagine. Please enjoy some nature and cat photos below an ily now and always
Hello,
First of all, congratulations on having your poem published.
You mention imposter syndrome at the beginning of your post. I just wanted to say this:
I hope that when doubt returns, you’ll remember this moment.
Being published is never luck. It’s recognition.
Love your posts, sir.
Thank you.
Respect for nature and kitty photos too.
Kindest regards
